EAR WAVE EVENT wants your music!

None of the music on this website exists. But don't you wish it did? The reviews that make up this preview of EAR WAVE EVENT were created by a neural network fed and trained on contemporary music press. Inverting the normal flow of music criticism, we invite artists to use these reviews prescriptively - to create realizations of musics 'imagined' by a prosthetic mind.

Please send submissions by January 22nd, 2020.

After February 3rd, 2020, EAR WAVE EVENT Issue 5, a complete 'music magazine,' will be released with YOUR audio.

DJ Muller/JIDI
First Choice/Alternating Currents

The concept behind these two videos is a bit lost on me. Where previous videos JIDI had uploaded to YouTube featured unnamed musicians performing a wide range of electronic instruments (some of which I have no recollection of), these new videos feature no such performers, but a mix of field recordings and software synthesizers. The music on this release is not unlike the kind that could be found on a Korg synthesizer, albeit with different instruments (the Korg Big Reverb, sources from the Korg Auro Model 25, sources from the Korg Minoguitar 50 and some minor tweaking from Avid's Arca Drummer). It’s not really that dissimilar to what you might hear if you turned the volume on a Korg Reverb and played some simple, ambient, drum-based synthesizer waves.

It’s hard to figure if these are field recordings or software patterns, but both seem to be about as far from the mainstream as you can get. In both cases, there is some very high-end futuristic / space / ambience going on. It’s not always clear what these sounds are, but it’s neat. The music alternates between very fast and twinkling (be it Korg Minoguitar 50 or Korg Auro Model 25) and slower (possibly flanger-like) electronic experiments. The whole thing has a rather Hasbro-like feel to it, which makes me think of the miniature stands of circuit boards that would be useful for music in space.
