EAR WAVE EVENT wants your music!

None of the music on this website exists. But don't you wish it did? The reviews that make up this preview of EAR WAVE EVENT were created by a neural network fed and trained on contemporary music press. Inverting the normal flow of music criticism, we invite artists to use these reviews prescriptively - to create realizations of musics 'imagined' by a prosthetic mind.

Please send submissions by January 22nd, 2020.

After February 3rd, 2020, EAR WAVE EVENT Issue 5, a complete 'music magazine,' will be released with YOUR audio.

Langda
Blackshell Dub Mangada

Founded in 1984 by Kevin Anderson, Langda are an Australian quartet whose sound builds up from the odd boogie, over which Langda create a sense of vertiginous pelvic thrust and pulsating rhythms of their own. Recorded live in Sydney in 2017, this set follows the original arc of Langda’s career, from the chaotic dub of their first album in 1993, to the 20 minute sonorous monstrosities of their follow-up in 2006. Here they are, in my opinion, the best of the existing Langda set – their two-bit stereo whack is a perfect sign of their style.

But there is much more to Langda than just whack and whirl. Their sound is diverse and emotive; it includes a lot of deep-rooted low end wobble, with an especially wacky throw in the last minute of the second set. Langda dubs and samples are used sparingly; samples from the 1970s do pop up occasionally, which are used to great effect.
