“Mama’s Boy” is a poem that reads like a play on words: “Mama’s Boy” is the boy who did the important thing”. This album is an oddly formatted set of poems, which do not fit together as well as one might expect. It is, however, a great listening experience, as the poems are woven together into more varied tunes. The first few tunes are joyous, shimmering, and melodic, that hold together well. “We are the children of God” is the most lyrical tune, with a tender and gentle tone. “I’m your mommy/I’m a virgin” is a mixture of innocence and spirituality, with an uplifting refrain – “I don’t want to be your mother/I’m trying to be your dad”. The second tune “Heart Is A Muscle” is quieter and more contemplative, with a whisper of Mahavishnu Orchestra and a touch of Tibetan Buddhism. The lyrics are spoken in the spoken word form, with slight verses and a subtle atmosphere of space.
